Reflections at Christmas 14

John 3:17-18, “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but He who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

He wasn’t seeking a greater schism or to penalize us. He wasn’t out to “get” man. The cross wasn’t a judgment against us, but against the enemy who wanted to keep us in darkness. In the cross, Christ assumed our debt and paid it all, providing a way to be reconciled to the Father. The Light had come for one reason – to pay the price that we might be saved, and it is we alone who decide if we will be or not.

Will we continue to die in the dark or live in the light? Those are our choices. We are called to be His children; to walk as children of light. We condemn ourselves when we deny His Name. In Him alone we live and move and have our being. Without Him, there is no life or light or being. In the dark we lose our identity; only in the light do we find it. Salvation is near; it is here. What will you do with it?
