The Reward of Eager Expectations, Day 13

Reading: Luke 2:21-35

Joseph and Mary, in their obedience, presented Jesus to the Lord. In the temple, Simeon, a righteous man within Jerusalem, had been watching and waiting eagerly for the consolation of Israel, the Messiah. While historically, it seemed as if God was silent, He wasn't. The Holy Spirit was speaking, and Simeon was listening, but he wasn't the only one. In the same temple complex was a prophetess. Widowed at an early age, Anna never remarried but gave herself to prayer and fasting, never leaving the temple where the manifest presence of God resided.

Both of these individuals were patiently waiting for God to perform His Word. Their faith did not waver, but they clung to the promise of God's redemption. They awoke, as they had always done, but unlike Zacharias, they expected that the Lord would appear any day, and life would never be the same for them or the nation they loved. They were now advanced in age and probably could not perform many duties, but they continued daily in prayers.

Maybe you're an elderly person wondering if life has anything left to offer you, or perhaps you have been clinging to promises made to you by the Holy Spirit that have yet to be fulfilled. Remember, God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. So keep pressing in, keep praying, and keep believing. You never know what day the Lord will arrive on the scene and transform what was ordinary into extraordinary, releasing a spirit of prophecy upon you and giving you something to share with all who are watching and waiting.
